EX- GROUP 44 TR-8 RETURNS TO DAYTONA
![]()
One of Bob Tullius’s Group 44
Triumph TR-8s made an historic return to Daytona at the annual HSR meeting
during the weekend of 2-4 November 2001.
The car was originally built and
developed by Group 44 engineering guru Lanky Foushee, who was delighted to be
able to provide mechanical support for the car throughout the HSR event. This extremely competitive TR-8 won the IMSA-GTO
class with well-known Canadian sports car driver, Bill Adam and Bob Tullius in
the 1980 Sebring 12-hour race.
Retaining its original race set-up
from 1980, including the dry-sumped fuel-injected four-litre V8 Rover engine,
this historic car was well suited to the high-speed circuit. Even with the
addition of the bus-stop chicane on the back straight, the car was still
recording speeds in excess of 170 mph across the start-finish line.
Driving duties for the one-hour endurance race were shared between the car’s owner, Bill Warner and Lynx Chairman, John Mayston-Taylor. For the sprint race, Bill Adam drove the car once again and was thrilled to be re-united with his old steed.

“The car is very well set up for
this circuit; it is extremely stable on the banking, whilst also being nimble in
the infield sections”, commented John Mayston-Taylor after his stint in the
car. “Altogether, a very enjoyable car to drive”.
A number of selected events will be
contested with the car during the 2002 season.

Mayston-Taylor at Lynx.
