Lynx Racing Car Restorations and Race Engineering

When the subject of a restoration project is a racing car that will be used in competition, this adds a further dimension to the equation. It is critical that the car be structurally safe and engineering improvements should be made if inherent weaknesses or faults are known about the particular model.

The skills and experience required for racing car restoration are very different to those found in traditional sports car restoration. The approach has to be different, as the end use is very different. A methodical, disciplined approach from an experienced dedicated racing team with specific equipment and facilities, who are actively involved in competitive motor sports will ensure the car's maximum potential is realised safely.

A thorough engineering analysis is required of the original designs and types of materials used to confirm whether or not for example, a higher grade of steel or aluminium can be substituted. Various diagnostic equipment is also used to test the serviceability and strength of components.

Engineering drawings are made of the major components to ensure complete accuracy should a replacement be needed - especially if it is required urgently.

Once the restoration of the car has been completed, the next phase of the project is the set-up and development of the car.   This is an ongoing process that will involve the set up of the car in the Lynx Preparation Area using digital corner weight scales and diagnostic equipment.  It is then taken to a circuit with the Lynx Race Team for shakedown tests and further development prior to participation in competitive events.
