The ex-Yamaha Ford GT40 (P1077) joined a number of other competition GT40s, Porsches and Lola T70s in the race for 1963 –1970 FIA Manufacturers Championship Cars in this year’s Monterey Historics event at the Laguna Seca Raceway during the weekend of 18-21 August 2005.

This very original example, which is finished in the period Yamaha works colours of yellow, white and black, performed very well against strong competition to finish in 6th place overall driven by Lynx Chairman John Mayston-Taylor.

Since its last outing at the 2004 Le Mans Classic event, the car’s set up and gearing was changed for the unique characteristics of Laguna Seca. “It is a technical track with a series of slower corners, which generally favours the lighter cars”, commented Mayston-Taylor. “The undulating nature of the circuit makes for some dramatic sights”.

Famous for “The Corkscrew” turn (which has been described as a chicane with a two storey drop!), Laguna Seca has hosted the Monterey Historics event for the past 32 years and provides a beautiful backdrop for a weekend of world-class vintage racing.
