LIGHTWEIGHT E-TYPE WINS ITS CLASS AT FESTIVAL OF SPEED

A 1963 Le Mans Cunningham Jaguar factory Lightweight E-types has won its class – Into the Night, European Endurance Racing - at the Goodwood Festival of Speed event.

This year’s theme was On the Limit–A History of Heroes, and the ex-Briggs Cunningham Lightweight E-type was invited to recognise Cunningham’s contribution to sports car racing, especially at Le Mans.

‘5114 WK’, which competed in the 1963 24 Heures du Mans driven by Walt Hansgen and Augie Pabst, is maintained and event-prepared for Historic Racing by Lynx Motors International.

This very historic competition Jaguar, still retaining its original all-aluminium dry-sumped engine and ZF five-speed gearbox was driven by Lynx Chairman John Mayston-Taylor. He recorded a course time of 58.34secs, with a final trap speed of 100mph, delighting the many thousands of spectators who enjoyed the event in brilliant sunshine.

The next outing for the car will be at the Goodwood Revival Meeting in September, where it will be driven in the one-hour RAC TT Celebration race by Jackie Oliver and John Mayston -Taylor.
