CUNNINGHAM LIGHTWEIGHT WINS AT HURLINGHAM
![]()
The ex-Briggs Cunningham Jaguar Lightweight E-type ‘5114 WK’ has won its class at the prestigious Louis Vuitton Classic and was presented with the Morgan Stanley Trophy at London’s Hurlingham Club on Saturday 2 June.
For the event this year, the organiser’s arranged a special class to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the legendary Jaguar E-type. Other significant examples of the model included a further two of the original twelve competition Lightweights, the first production right hand drive fixed head coupe, and the third and twelfth roadsters built in right hand drive form.

‘5114 WK’ is maintained by Lynx and was prepared for the event in the company’s workshops at St Leonards on Sea.
"It is a very exciting achievement for the car to win its class in this highly competitive event", commented John Mayston-Taylor at the awards ceremony. "‘5114 WK’ is extremely original, as it was only campaigned by Cunningham during 1963 and then retired to his museum. As we are racing the car at Le Mans in a couple of weeks’ time, it is difficult to achieve the balance between total originality and the incorporation of safety items required in modern motor sport. We obviously got the balance right and the judge’s decision confirmed the fact that originality and patina are more important than a complete ‘new’ restoration”.

‘5114 WK’ is now being prepared for its return to La Sarthe to compete in the Le Mans Legend race on Saturday 16 June and will be driven by John Mayston-Taylor.
