The extremely original ex-Yamaha Ford GT40 Mark1 will be competing in this year’s Le Mans Classic event during the weekend of 24/25 July.

GT40P/1077, which was built by John Wyer Automotive to the same specification as its sister Gulf-liveried cars 1074/5/6, was purchased new by the Yamaha Motor Company and used for testing and evaluation purposes in Japan. Following two races at Suzuka in 1970, where it scored podium finishes, 1077 remained in a private Japanese collection for many years, before it was returned to England and restored by Lynx Motors International for historic motor sports events.

Having competed in the annual Goodwood Revival Race Meeting, where it finished 7th overall in the 2003 event, this very historic car will travel to the circuit of the model’s most famous victories to compete against other historic sports prototypes of the period including Lola T70s, Porsche 908s and a Ferrari 512S.  GT40 P/1077 will be driven by Lynx Chairman, John Mayston-Taylor.

The event, which is being held over a 24-hour period, will feature 3 one-hour races for six categories of cars of the type that raced at Le Sarthe between 1923 to 1975.
