One of the very few cars to have
achieved 'Legend' status in its lifetime is the Jaguar E-type or XKE. Malcolm Sayer's
superb streamlining and Williams Lyon's eye for detail combined to produce a new concept
in road-going sports racing cars.
In 1962, Jaguar's competition department decided to build a lightweight racing version of the E-type for competition against the might of Ferrari and the awesome 250GTO. Twelve cars were constructed on a prototype basis using unique components including a specially developed suspension system, an all aluminium body, aluminium engine, wide-angle cylinder head and the Lucas mechanical fuel injection system. The Lightweight E-types were raced in the USA, Europe and Australia, and although they beat the Ferraris on a number of occasions, mid-engined cars started to appear in GT racing with the Ford GT40 and the E-types were soon considered uncompetitive.
Lynx had gained a significant amount of experience having maintained and restored a number of the factory lightweights including the rebuild of the Lindner-Nocker Low Drag Coupe car in 1982. The company decided to share their knowledge by building their own version of the famous Lightweight E-type whilst also offering various engine, gearbox and final drive ratios options to discerning owners.
Lynx continues its close association with these racing thoroughbreds with the recent re-commissioning and race preparation of the Kjell Qvale car (S850660) found stored in a private garage in Los Angeles after more than thirty years. As a company, Lynx also race prepares and maintains a number of the other factory Jaguar Lightweight E's.
The Lynx Lightweight E-type offers the pleasure of owning and driving a car of pure beauty with race-bred performance and handling to match.
