EARLY COMPETITION E-TYPE COMPETES IN THE LYNX 40th ANNIVERSARY E-TYPE RACE

line

One of the earliest surviving competition E-types finished the Lynx-sponsored 40th Anniversary E-type race in 7th place overall out of 25 starters.

The car (chassis no. 850020) was originally purchased by well-known racing enthusiast Derek Wilkinson, who was a close friend of Lofty England and was offered one of the first E-Types to help publicise the new car in competition. Wilkinson arranged with John Bekaert to race his cars and it was agreed between Wilkinson and Lofty England that Bekaert would race 'YRP 999'.

DAVID PIPER IN YRP 999

Driven in the race by ex-Le Mans driver David Piper and Lynx Chairman, John Mayston-Taylor, the car was qualified in 15th position in a busy track session.

With Mayston-Taylor taking the first stint, the car was handed over in 10th place and David Piper missed out on a class win by a mere 4/10ths of a second!

“It was the first time driving an E-type and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience”, enthused David Piper after the race. “The car felt very nicely balanced and was obviously well prepared”.
