BRIAN REDMAN & HISTORIC JAGUARS AT AMELIA ISLAND
![]()
Former Sports Car champion and Jaguar works driver Brian Redman was honorary chairman at this year's Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in Northern Florida.
The Amelia Island event continues to attract an increasing number of top class entries from every era of motoring, and this year it also included a display of many of the sports and racing cars Brian drove during his career.
A number of well-known names from the motor racing world were invited to judge at this prestigious event and included Peter Brock, Hurley Haywood, David E Davis and Thos L Bryant.
One of the marques well represented in the Concours was Jaguar and a number of immaculate examples were on show including the very original XKSS (XKSS 728) that won its class at the Louis Vuitton event at Hurlingham Club in London last June.
The class judging was extremely close, with an immaculate XK150S Roadster narrowly winning over a beautiful XK120 OTS. A lead judge in the Jaguar and British Sports Car classes, John Mayston-Taylor was very impressed with the quality of the entries and also the standard of preparation. "The Amelia Island Concours is now definitely one of the major concours and the setting for the event is magnificent" Mayston-Taylor commented. "There are a number of rare racing cars shown here that one never sees elsewhere; that is what makes this event so interesting".
