The ex-Yamaha Mark 1 Ford GT40 competed successfully at this year’s Goodwood Revival Meeting in the thrilling Whitsun Trophy Race on Sunday 8 September. This year the car was one of seven GT40s entered in the eighteen-lap race.

The very original car ran very well in practice on the Friday finishing up 5th fastest overall, but suffered a broken selector fork during the first lap of qualifying on the Saturday.

Fortunately, another original ZF GT40 gearbox was sourced and the car was taken back to the Lynx workshops where a gearbox change was undertaken overnight. The car with its replacement gearbox was then road-tested early on Sunday morning and the car was quickly returned to the Goodwood paddock in time for the race in the afternoon.

Lining up on the grid in 19th place, Lynx Chairman John Mayston-Taylor finished in11th place overall in a closely fought race, which was re-started following an accident involving a Ferrari 250 LM.

“It was very much touch and go with the gearbox change and everybody worked so hard to make sure the car started the race. It was not ideal starting from the back, as every competitor is having their own race, and they don’t always see you. The re-start definitely helped and the car was running very strongly at the finish”, commented Mayston-Taylor after the race.
